Now that California’s budget was passed and the golf tax was NOT included, we would like to hear back from you on your feelings about this effort. What did you think of the media coverage? Was it easy to get involved, was the website helpful? What can be done to get more of your fellow golfers informed? Any interesting stories about your efforts to stop the tax? Let’s talk it over in this blog section.
Thanks again for all your support!

Society, is not a free lunch. A surcharge of a buck or so for green fees over, say, $50 would not break anyone. Healthcare, education, infrastructure, etc all are already woefully underfunded.

Golf courses need to be proactive and cut down on water usage. We could irrigate alot less turf on most golf courses awithout any affect on the playability of the golf courses. I cringe as I drive by sunnyvale Municipal golf course and see the wall to wall turf. What a waste of water and oftime and money to mow all that extra turf

I agree with Jim's comment. I see this as a fantastic opportunity for the area golf courses to take a big lead in transitioning to the use of recycled water. In Santa Clara Valley there is a tremendous supply of recycled water, a supply which mostly flows into the bay. We know that some courses are already watered with recycled water, but I think it would be great to see an initiative taken to have all golf courses watered with recycled water. Not only would it be a sign that the golfing community is willing to do what it takes to make the sport more environmentally responsible, but it will also help make the public more aware of what is possible in terms of retaining the lush landscapes without consuming the precious potable water.

Property, business, sales and other fees and taxes included in water/power etc. that all golf courses already pay to bloated bureaucrats in Sacramento are substantial and should more than cover our fare share of the burden. Sacramento's dysfunctional fiscal policies and lack of stewardship of the State's treasury should not penalize "user fee" driven for profit enterprises...they need to clean house and balance their own budget first!

I would not have a problem paying a minor fee playing golf , but the problem with Cal and the Fed Gov is that this is just another ave to tax us into socialism. I can remember when the sales tax was 6.5 % and the increase was only to be temporary. Nothing is temorary when it comes to taxes and now the sales tax in Alameda County is nearly 10%. the highest in Cal. I would like the legislators to give up their cars, benefits and realize that is what business do to survive. If they want tax look at the retirments of the Public Employees especiallly the legislators everyone would like that as a retirment. The Golf tax just another way to tax society for their lack of responsibilty for solving the problem.

I live in the Los Angeles area and the city green fees have increased from $22 to $34 in the last 3 years! ($39 for me as I'm not in an "annexed" part of the city). The "tax happy" politicians know only one solution, throw money at the problem (and I'm not talking about the Governor). Unfortunately this had lead to decrease in play, so the mayor's taken the money budgeted for maintenance and improvements to solve his problems. We need new politicians!
